Good evening, readers.
I have been struggling with massive writer’s block. Many writers may say that it is not a thing, but I’m blocked, whatever it is. Book one has been released into the wild (online book retailers), and with that comes the ease of many of the past months’ stressors. But now I’m dealing with a new set of stressors. Will I get the next book written fast enough that people won’t lose interest? How can I get more eyes on my story? Will I ever figure out how to sell signed copies? (Yes, to that last one. I just need to wait until I can upgrade my website.)
I am attempting to try and combat writer’s block by introducing you to the characters from book one in a simple sentence. Let’s see how this goes.
Vala Boddason
An average, awkward 17-year-old girl who craves purpose, not yet realizing it waits for her just beyond the roots of the Yggdrasil.
Heimdall (Heim)
The watchman of the gods, a guide across the Bifröst, and the protector of the chosen one.
Helene
Vala’s quirky, blond bombshell of a bestie who may be more than meets the eye.
Frigg (Nana Frigg)
Odin’s wife and goddess of wisdom, a maternal figure who has trained many generations of Völva.
Thor
Think “god of thunder” with bright red hair, a big brother way about him, and a beer belly. Yup, that is my Thor.
Odin
The Allfather. ‘Nuff said.
Loki
Red-rimmed eyes, fire engine red hair, and swagger for days. Mix that with a bit of red smoke, a lot of sass, and a dash of evil, and you have Loki.
There are many more characters within the pages of my book. I spent a lot of time researching Norse mythology in hopes of honoring Scandinavian culture and bringing the myths to life. The stories in On the Wings of a Word that are related to the myths were pulled straight from works like the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. Stay tuned this weekend and I will post about all the resources I used.
Have a lovely Friday evening!
I love you, bye!
