Happy Sunday!

I’ve been struggling a bit lately with burnout. There was so much buildup up to release day for OTWOAW and then the after came. I stacked multiple tasks on top of a heap of an already existing group of projects and—WHAM—I’m overwhelmed!

I allowed an immense feeling of inadequacy to invade my soul and have been trying to claw my way out of the pit I dug myself. I felt like I had a to-do list that would never end because I needed to get it all done at once. That led to avoidance instead of completion. When faced with adversity (whether self-inflicted or not) it is typically easier to tuck away instead of face the challenge.

Then, I prayed. I asked God to help me prioritize, strategize, and organize my tasks in order to make them more manageable. Here’s what He reminded me through scripture:

“Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So, I eagerly jumped into smaller tasks and here’s what I’ve accomplished so far:

  1. I finished updating my website and opened my signed copy online book shop.
  2. I sent half of the books I promised to people and have been packing and boxing the rest.
  3. I created a business Instagram and Facebook page which I intend to post to regularly.
  4. I let my TikTok followers know that I am tired but will continue to support them and post content, despite massive burnout.
  5. I have been slowly trying to get back to missed texts and DMs so that my friends/family know how loved they are.

I have a lot going on in my life, but I need to remember to break things down so I don’t get overwhelmed. I also need to avoid making so many promises that will inevitably leave me feeling buried in my own sense of responsibility. As a people pleaser, this is easier said than done.

Here’s how I plan to take some time for myself today:

  1. Make a cup of tea
  2. Pick up my book
  3. Read in front of the fire

If you are stressed, just remember that stress is an inward reaction to outside influences.

We have a choice.

Today, choose peace. Choose one thing instead of everything. Be proud when you finish that one thing and then choose another. Brick by brick, the heap of tasks will dwindle down.

Find joy in the completion.

  1. I know you just began but once you aren’t burned out, I think readers would be thrilled to access this in audio! Will you be holding readings and signings?
